2013 NCAA Bracket Picks: Big Ten To Outperform Big East

by Matt Woods | March 8th, 2013

Throughout the college basketball season, the Big East and Big Ten have appeared to stand above the rest, and on average we project the Big East to land the most tournament bids with 7.5, compared to 6.9 for the Big Ten. However, our 2013 NCAA bracket picks expect the Big Ten to outperform all other conferences once the tourney starts.

According to our algorithmic NCAA bracket picks, the Big Ten is likely to win 11.8 tournament games, while on average the Big East is picked to win just 10.6.  It would appear that more teams from the Big Ten are primed for a deep run.

In fact, five Big Ten teams (Indiana, Michigan, Ohio St, Michigan St and Wisconsin) have better than 10% odds to make the Final Four in our most recent 2013 bracket picks. By comparison, just three Big East teams have such odds (Louisville, Syracuse and Pittsburgh).

So while the Big East may look like the big winner on Selection Sunday, our bracket picks expect the Big Ten to have the last laugh.
