@John.

I agree with one very important part of your comment. Execution, experience, and heart only take you so far.

At the end of the day, the team with the better talent usually wins. Usually.

@ David. It's impressive that Southern Illinois got a Mr. Basketball fron the state of Illinois and we know the Salukis can defend with any team in the country. The problem I have with the Salukis is can they score enough to keep up with Duke? I think they, like most mid-major teams have a solid backcourt. I was impressed with Singler's performance against Rhode Island on Sunday(a game Duke should have lost.) I also think that Paulus gets an unfair rap. He's not spectacular, but he is solid, plus, he like Tyler Hansbrough, Chase Budinger, Patrick Patterson and Nick Calathes among others did not jump to the NBA early and for that I applaud him. (He'll get drafted. If Chris Duhon can start in the NBA, Paulus can at least be a solid contributor off of some team's bench.) The second game is a fascinating one. I agree with you about Manny Harris. Yes, it's Michigan Tech and Northeastern(although they should contend in the CAA this year), but I was very impressed at his all-around skills. I think he will be first team all Big Ten and challenge for Big Ten Player Of The Year. If guys like Sims, Grady and Novak can step up their games, the Wolverines could definitely make the NIT. As for UCLA, I think it's all about Collison and Shipp. The freshman class is terrific(I was most impressed with Lee from what I saw.), but at the end of the day, those two will lead UCLA to a 4th consecutive Final Four.

Predictions: As much as I want to pick against Duke because of ESPN showing every Duke game and Duk-ing us out so to speak, I just can't. This game reminds of Southern Illinois' Sweet 16 game against Kansas in 2007(a 61-58 Jayhawk win.) It will be ugly, it might even be a 5 point game or so, but in the end, as usual against this type of competition, the Salukis scoring issues will come back to haunt them. Duke 66, Southern Illinois 61.

I will be different and go out on a limb and say that Michigan is this year's Iowa and Stanford as you mentioned above. Harris will get 30, Sims, Grady, etc. will do just enough to win and UCLA's freshman will be awed just a touch at the bright lights of Madison Square Garden(not a place UCLA plays at very often.) Michigan 71, UCLA 68.
