Don’t give up on Arizona
The Wildcats, despite dropping four of five and sitting at .500 in Pac-10 play, could still wind up with a #1 seed. Their non-conference schedule was the strongest in the country, and they still have a big-time battle with UNC coming up this weekend.
The ‘Cats match up well with North Carolina–few players can find a body for Reyshawn Terry, but UA can rotate Marcus Williams and Chase Budinger, and its larger guards Shakur and McClellan will cause some problems for Ty Lawson and Wayne Ellington. They also play at a similarly frenetic pace to the Heels.
There are plenty more opportunities for marquee wins in Pac-10 play, particularly if UA can beat Oregon at Mac Court.
Make no mistake, UCLA has just about locked up a #1 slot at this point, and if either Arizona or Oregon wins the Pac-10 Tournament, it’s going to be tough for another team to make a better argument for the fourth #1.
