Big 12 Confidential (Pre-Conference Wrap)

Another non-conference season has come and gone, and with the exception of the Kansas vs. Michigan State game on Saturday, the rest of the conference will play their first conference games of the season this weekend. It’s hard to believe that’s true–the last couple of months have been a relative blur. North Carolina, the one… more »

What we’ve learned so far about the Big 12 Conference (South Division)

The Big 12 Conference is riding the wave of last season’s success, and it has Oklahoma, Baylor, Kansas and Texas among others to thank for bringing it back to the top of the college basketball pecking order. Big early-season wins have been the norm for a couple of teams, as the Big 12′s cream continues… more »

Big 12 Confidential (Week 8)

Hot Topic: What a week this should be for the Big 12 Conference. It seems just like yesterday we were talking about the conference getting six bids into the tournament, and now with the recent play of a few teams (namely Oklahoma, Baylor and Texas A&M), it could be looking at only five tickets. Let’s… more »

Bubble Watch: 2/26/08

First, the recap: Big Ten: Ohio State. The Big Ten’s weekly entrant in this column is one loss away from dropping out of the bracket. OSU is an abysmal 1-8 against the RPI Top 50. Fortunately, or unfortunately, for them they still have three opportunities to improve that record: @Indiana, H-Purdue, and H-Michigan State in… more »

Hot Topic: With the Big 12 season winding down, it’s time to once again take another look at where all six major contenders stand in terms of chances of getting into the Big Dance. Week 8 should give us a lot to talk about with the conference tournament quickly approaching, so this week’s edition of… more »

After a one-week hiatus, we’re back with the weekly Bubble Watch. A quick rundown of the teams featured last time around: Big 10: Indiana Hoosiers. IU is now officially a lock.  After two wins over Big Ten leaders Purdue and Michigan State, Indiana will be in the Tournament.  The bigger question is whether Kelvin Sampson… more »

Big 12 Confidential (Week 6)

Hot Topic: Ah, the Big 12 Conference; it’s good to see you’re back in rare form again! Just when you think you have the Big 12 all figured out this year, the conference turns around throws a Dice-K gyroball your direction. The “consistent” play from Kansas? Gone. Baylor’s Cinderella run? It’s hanging on like one… more »

USC vs Oklahoma

On paper the roster looks like a total mess: five freshman, five sophomores, three juniors and not one single senior. It looks bad. Based on those numbers alone, it’s impossible to think that any team could ever dream of hanging with some of the best teams in the country, let alone even fathom vying for… more »

2007 Coaches vs Cancer Tournament Preview

After one nationally-televised game, I’m not going to pretend to know the ins-and-outs of Coach Rick Scruggs’ offensive and defensive systems, but I can tell you that GW pressures the ball, gets out in transition, and attacks the basket very, very well. UConn’s A.J. Price and Jerome Dyson are going to have a lot to contend with in the backcourt.

Oklahoma should provide a nice test for the 3rd-ranked Tigers. Jeff Capel, now in his second year with the Sooners, has a talented freshman in Blake Griffin. The frontcourt matchup against the Tigers should be pretty even.
